Hong Kong environment

Hong Kong covers an area of just under 3,000 square kilometres, with 1000 square kilometres being land. Hong Kong Island is hilly. Most of the urban area is along the northern and southern shores of the harbour. All the natural forest has disappeared over the years and Hong Kong has limited fauna and flora.

The population is just under 7 million and is one of the world’s most densely populated cities with the urban area having 25,000 people per sq km in contrast with the New Territories where the population is about 3,000 people sq km.
